The five pieces in production explore the design process of five collaborative design disciplines: architecture, landscape architecture, lighting, sun shades and fountains. Host Sandy Urquhart interviews designers to explore how they create public space.

The project began last summer at The Highline in New York. Lighting designer Herve Descottes took us on an evening time tour of this hugely popular urban park, previously an abandoned elevated train line in the Meatpacking District. Herve explained his thinking behind his lighting design of The Highline. I have to add that Herve‚Äôs spectacularly lit park was a perfect subject for the photophillic Canon 5D. Production of the second and third episodes of this series started In April 2011. Radiant was on location in Los Angeles at the architecture offices of Moore, Ruble, Yudel and the design office of fountain designers, Fluidity. We spoke with Buzz Yudel and Michael Martin from MRY and took a tour through one of their truly exemplary local projects, the Santa Monica Public Library. Buzz and Michael have called the library, “a living room for the community,” and we saw why. We also met up with Jim Garland of Fluidity at his office in the old Taft Building at Hollywood and Vine. I have known Jim since architecture school and he has built a practice that is really at the vanguard of fountain design. We spoke with Jim about his design inspiration and how he is pushing the limits of fountain design. We also took a short trip to North Hollywood to see Jim’s water lab, where he tests many of his fountain concepts. – Bill

Radiant has been with this theater production for about a year. We were initially engaged to edit a montage for Al Pacino’s one man show. Working with the theater director, the montage turned out to be a short documentary about Al Pacino’s acting process. As the show travels and changes, Radiant was brought back in to fine tune the moving image components of the show. This shoot will give us footage to bring the show to the next level. – Dylan
